The story is captivating and the visual aspect is fresh and very well executed. I think it's a very good and original game, but a very overpriced one also. I got it from a bundle so it was no problem for me, but I would suggest you buy it when it's in sale in case you're interested.. The Yawhg has a six week campaign that you spend investing charecters into buildings to up their stats, depending on how well you do this is how well the town will survive afterwards. If your'e looking for a short game to play to get different results in the end, play this. I don't think it's worth $10.. The Yawhg is a choose your own adventure visual novel style game with everything it needs to be a finely polished product except a story of any length. The value of this game rises if you actually play it with friends, though you'll need to do so more than once. If you're seeking a curious story as a single player, well, you'll get part of one. I got The Yawhg on sale and gave it a try. Eight minutes later I was done. I figured I should give it a more thorough try and another eleven minutes later I had three playthroughs under my belt. Another $10 game that can be cleared faster than a good trip to the toilet. If you want to try it yourself nothing can stop you from clearing it a dozen times before refunding.The Yawhg has many good elements. A whimsical art style giving appeal to a dreary world, relaxing and somber music, some hearty wit. There's a good spread of events and RNG set up with a reliable way to target specific events and stat boosts to see certain endings or clear certain mysteries. The problem is that aside from the initial burst of curiosity there's almost nothing there. This is a cake made entirely of frosting. You make 12-24 choices of weekly activities for 2-4 characters, read a short paragraph for each with a small semi-random decision and then try to apply your final stats to help or hurt the recovering town. Then a short ending sees you off. That is it. If there was a nice long story to read with all these good frills The Yawhg would be a cult classic. There's virtually no gameplay and the story is threadbare, being a story where you imagine what the character you're putting together amounts to off screen. Aside from an easter egg or two there isn't any deep lore or twists to discover. Four townspeople do things that may or may not make them good or bad people. Once you've cleared The Yawhg a few times all that is left is whether or not you can convince other people to play it with you and whether or not you want to see every ending with a walkthrough in hand.Maybe The Yawhg would have value as an amusement between friends where you're all having a laugh about your outcomes and would pay itself off in time, something you can strike up when the mood hits over a few months. Anyone expecting a single player story to sink their teeth into will find there is no meat. This game may be a worthwhile purchase if you get it on a strong sale as it is more of a $2 curiosity. That's the price I paid and I still felt like a bit of a sucker.. This is a visual novel in the same style as Monster Loves You. The game involves choosing where to go each turn, then responding to the randomized event that happens there. The event and your response to it will have positive or negative effects on one or more of your character's stats, which in turn influence later events and the end of the game. It's sort of like a dating sim, except instead of trying to get the girl, you're trying to survive the apocalypse.The music and the writing are top notch, which makes the game a joy to play through several times over. Events are randomized to give the game more replay value, but they also interconnect with each other in surprising and delightful ways, so you're likely to see something new even on your tenth time through the game. Each run only takes about ten minutes, so finishing it multiple times is more fun than frustrating.Though enjoyable as a solitary experience, the game really shines when used as a party game. Grab a few friends and try to stave off The Yawhg together - or don't, and see if your character can fare better than the others after the apocalypse.. The issue I have with this game is not necessarily the length of gameplay - short playthroughs can be fine in theory. The Yawhg throws you in with little to no introduction, with no context and then asks you to make more or less binary choices. I don't think I'm equipped to choose as a person living in this world would. It's not roleplaying, because I don't know which role I'm playing. Consequences to these choices are often bizarre and do not create what I'd call a coherent consistent world that's reacting to my actions - simple hunting trip may leave you a crazed mass murderer, while pushing a nobleman does nothing but reward you.It's possible these play out differently based on your stats, but the game is simply too short to learn any kind of consistent expectation pattern.In the end, it's all just random and it doesn't matter what you pick, you just do. I didn't feel needed, like the game could just go on for the few minutes and show me the results just the same. I couldn't care less about the people of the town, if they rebuild after the storm or anything else - there's no time and no plot that would make me attached to anything.The visuals are nice, the music is pleasant. The controls and UI are TERRIBLE! (no options and I can't use the mouse?! What.)I don't even feel like spending another five minutes on another playthrough, it's just...not worth it. (which is awful, considering how much time I waste in general.). The trailer includes just about everything there is to see in this game. It will take you five minutes to play and then there's a somewhat interesting ending based on what you did, but nothing really changes upon subsequent playthroughs and even with 4 players there is no interaction or cooperative aspect. Less a game and more a children's picture book.. Played for 5h and am still getting new endings and story. This game is brilliant.. This was really a waste of money. Don't get me wrong, I like the visuals, but the actual gameplay is just so short. I expected more from this. If it's on sale, you should get it but don't pay the full price for it.. My friends and I can't get enough of this game. Love the storytelling and the art style.
